Does this feel familiar?

You’ve caught yourself thinking, “I can’t keep doing this. But what would I do instead?”

Maybe your career still works on paper, but you’ve stopped feeling like yourself inside it. You’re good at what you do. You’re just not sure you want to keep doing it.

Maybe a relationship, role or chapter has ended. Everyone asks what’s next. You don’t have an answer yet.

Maybe nothing dramatic has happened. You’ve simply realized that the life you worked so hard to build no longer feels like yours.

Or you know what needs to change—and keep finding yourself back in the same patterns when real life gets loud.

The old chapter no longer fits. The next one isn’t clear.

That’s a threshold. You don’t need a polished plan before we talk. We start with what feels true right now.

What Would Make Your Life a 10/10?

Most people spend their lives reacting
to work, their phones, their calendars, other people’s expectations, old habits, old beliefs, and old versions of themselves.

Eventually, you can become very successful at living a life you never consciously chose. Our work starts by getting clear on something deceptively simple:

We define who you want to become — and how you actually want to live.

Then we begin closing the gap between the life you’re living today and the life you want to create.

THE THRESHOLD METHOD

Regulate. Rewire. Create.

Knowing something needs to change is the beginning. These are the practices we use to cross that threshold and carry the change into your everyday life.

REGULATE · THE FIRST 60 DAYS

Find enough steadiness to hear yourself.

When everything feels urgent, it’s hard to know what you want. We build practices that help you slow down, recover and notice what your current life is asking of you. You begin making choices with more space and less reactivity.

REWIRE · THE NEXT 60 DAYS

Stop bringing the old patterns into the next chapter.

We explore the beliefs, roles and habits you keep returning to—even when they no longer fit. Through coaching, reflection and practical experiments, you build new ways of responding in your work, relationships and daily routines.

CREATE · THE FINAL 60 DAYS

Make the next chapter something you actually live.

We turn what matters to you into choices, boundaries and routines. Your San Diego retreat gives you space to practice and deepen that work in person. You leave with a direction you can keep acting on when you return home.

REAL CLIENTS. REAL PEOPLE. REAL RESULTS.

JOHN QUIRK · LIFE TRANSITION COACH

I help people step into their next chapter.

I spent years working corporate jobs as a TV producer in New York City, surviving through deadlines, adrenaline and stimulation overload, substance dependency and the belief that more achievement would eventually make life feel better. Spoiler alert, it didn't.

On the outside, I was living the dream. Inside, I was burning out.

Eventually, my body and mind couldn’t keep doing it. My career fell apart, I entered one of the most difficult periods of my life. The identity I’d spent years building disappeared with it. That experience completely changed the direction of my life.

Over the last decade, I’ve immersed myself in meditation, breathwork, yoga, nervous-system regulation, plant medicine, retreats and behavior change — not simply studying these tools, but building my own life around them.

I’ve since led 53 retreats and worked with more than 1,000 people with my company SoCal Wellness Retreats. I get people out of the noise, reconnected with themselves and living their best lives.

I know what it means to become someone new.

My own thresholds have taken me from corporate TV production to entrepreneurship, from New York City to San Diego, and from teaching yoga to leading retreats. Each transition asked me to let go of an identity that had once made sense—and build a life around who I was becoming.

That is why I specialize in life transitions. Changing your job, your city or your daily routine is only part of the work. The deeper questions are: Who am I now? What still matters? What am I ready to stop carrying into the next chapter?

Helping you cross your threshold is the focus of that work.

My expertise is helping people move from “something needs to change” to a next chapter they can actually live. We make sense of the transition, work through the patterns keeping you stuck, and turn clarity into action—with support as real life unfolds.

Good coaching helped me become who I am.

Some of my earliest experiences of coaching came on football fields, baseball diamonds and hockey rinks. The coaches who stayed with me did more than improve my performance. They helped me see what I was capable of, learn from setbacks and keep showing up when things were difficult.

What I’ve learned—and how it helps you.

I’ve spent years learning from teachers and coaches, including training in ashtanga yoga and the Wim Hof Method and attending advanced meditation retreats. The value of that work is in the practices I can bring into a difficult conversation, an uncertain decision or an ordinary Tuesday.

In our work together, I draw from those experiences to find what is useful for you. That might mean a simple daily practice, a different way to approach a recurring pattern, or a book or exercise that helps you see your next step. We try it in your actual life, notice what changes, and adjust together.

My years in fast-paced corporate environments help me understand how hard it can be to slow down when achievement has become part of your identity. I know the pull of pushing through. I also know that your next chapter needs room to be heard.

Movement, meditation and time to reflect remain part of my own life. I bring that practice into coaching alongside curiosity, honesty and a willingness to keep learning.

A next chapter you can actually live.

Moving from New York City to San Diego was part of a bigger change: building a life with room for work I care about, movement, connection and the practices that help me stay present.

I love the work I do and care deeply about the people I support. Retreats let us spend real time together, beyond a weekly conversation, and practice what a different way of living could feel like.

My life keeps evolving, too. I bring that same curiosity to your next chapter. We look at what matters to you, what no longer fits, and the choices that would make your everyday life feel more like your own.

Let’s talk about the chapter you’re ready to create.

THRESHOLD · SIX MONTHS OF PRIVATE SUPPORT

Cross the threshold. Build your next chapter.

THRESHOLD private coaching gives you ongoing support as you step into your next chapter. A retreat creates space to step out of your day-to-day life. Private coaching gives you support as you make changes inside it. This experience brings both together.

The Methodology and Exercises

IDENTITY SHIFT EXERCISE

Identify the beliefs and patterns shaping your current behavior, challenge the ones that no longer serve you and begin building evidence for a new way of seeing yourself.

ENERGY INVESTMENT PORTFOLIO

Get clear on where your time, attention and energy are actually going — then intentionally redirect them toward what matters most.

FUTURE VISION MAPPING

Define what you genuinely want your life to look and feel like, separate from the expectations of family, friends, coworkers or society.

CEO BLUEPRINT

Clarify what you love doing, what only you can do, and what can be delegated, simplified or eliminated — so your work supports your life instead of consuming it.

ROCK-SOLID MORNING & EVENING ROUTINES

Protect the bookends of your day with personalized routines designed to support your energy, focus, sleep and ability to be present.

What Makes This Different?

Nervous-system-first, not hustle-first.

Lasting behavior change is difficult when you’re chronically stressed, exhausted or overloaded. We start by creating greater regulation and stability — then build from there. You can't create from a place of survival.

Science informed, built for real life.

You won’t just learn what to do, you’ll understand the patterns driving your behavior and implement practical systems for changing them. You'll get custom plans made to fit YOUR life. I'm not putting you into a cookie-cutter experience. You get my full attention and full playbook.

Depth over volume.

Unlike pre-recorded courses or a giant group program, this is highly personalized work focused on your life, your patterns and the changes you’re ready to make. I bring my clients to my house, take them through a full day of what their new life will look and feel like. You will not find someone who cares more about their clients' success.

Your next chapter becomes a practice.

We connect the inner work to the life you’re actually living. The aim is to make decisions with greater clarity, follow through on what matters, and build a chapter that feels like yours. We keep adjusting together as your life changes.

Frequently Asked Questions

You don’t need to know exactly what comes next. Here are a few questions about recognizing your threshold and finding support.

You’re done rushing through your life.

What if, instead of becoming better at surviving an overloaded life, you gave yourself the tools, structure and support to start living differently.

This work is about slowing down the internal urgency, reclaiming your attention and intentionally building a life that supports your health, relationships, work and the person you want to become.

Less survival.
More presence.
A life you actually want to be in.
